This article will show you how to block out time for your staff.

This guide covers breaks on the desktop version of Phorest. Check out this guide for information on breaks in the Phorest Go app.

Adding a Break

The break button can be used for a number of uses. A break can be set to a paid break, a normal unpaid break, and repeat breaks.

On the appointment screen, select the staff member and click once on the time you wish to set the break. Select the Break button at the bottom of the screen.

Give the break a name in the Label field. The name will appear in the break on the Appointments calendar once it has been added to the staff member's column.

If the staff member is being paid for this break, make sure to click the Staff is Paid During This Break checkbox.

Repeat Break

You can also set a break to repeat. Check the Repeat checkbox. You can then select the frequency of repetition, frequency of days, which selected dates, and the end date of the repeated break.

This is very useful if a staff member takes a break at the same time each day or schedules weekly staff meetings. For repeat breaks, you must update the Repeat Until date. Otherwise, the break will only be created for today.

Once you're ready to add the break, click Save.

It's best practice to add time off to the Staff Roster for holidays, sick days etc., rather than blocking out a longer break.

The Staff Basic Wages Report (Manager > Reports > Additional Reports > Staff > Staff Basic Wages) will calculate the working hours the staff member has performed minus any breaks taken.

Need to Remove a Break?

If you created a break but now need to delete/remove it, single-click the break then click Remove.

If the break you created is a repeat break, you'll be prompted to choose whether you want to only remove the break you have clicked (Remove One) or remove every future instance of this break (Remove All).
